Singapore Guarantees a Medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics!
It was an extremely exhilarating afternoon as viewers locked their eyes and secured a comfortable seat to watch the Women's Table Tennis Semi Finals between Singapore and S.Korea. While others like myself were at work, the Olympic results website gave livescores which gave instant updates on the scores.
All talk was on whether Singapore could finally end the 48 years of medal-less drought which seemed to never end as the Women's Table Tennis team came in 4th position in the last 2 Olympics which were a major upset. Today's match would most likely be the best shot to end that dreadful streak after Tao Li's major upset in the swimming finals though many were banking that Singapore would hit a hat-trick, and leave the Olympics without a medal yet again.
Posts were pouring to a thread at EDMVV as it soared to almost 200 pages by the end of the Semi Finals. Li Jia Wei's singles match was a major upset as she lost 2-3 to S.Korea's Kim Kyung Ah.
Fortunately for me, the EDMVVers posted a picture of LJW's defeat:
The semi finals seemed endless as the players hit ties after ties and Singapore was near victorious as we led 2-1 games. Unfortunately we lost our 3rd singles and it was up to Feng Tianwei, the first and last single's player from Singapore, to wrap things up.
The battle got heated as it hit 2:1 game sets, Singapore with a meager lead. Yet during the 4th set, the fight became really intense as neither players wanted to let go of any points. YH told me the empire executed an expedite and decided that the players were to be given 10 mins as a deathmatch finale.
And by fluke (with some skill), Feng Tianwei brought it home for Singapore to guarantee a medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I remember looking at the livescores intently at 6:05pm, hoping that the match would speed up so that I could go home. My colleagues and I gave a sigh of relief as we saw the scores jump and ended. Despite LJW's best efforts, the spotlight was definitely shining on her for the wrong reasons. I'm sure this will hit all over the headlines in news tomorrow, so do watch out for it.
As i finally finish with Table Tennis, here comes the Phelps phenomenon. Michael Phelps has hit the spotlight on the papers recently and is said to be the greatest Olympian yet. I could not agree further, as he broke so many World Records in this Olympics and is striving to break the Spitzer's record. Phelps participated in the Men's 200m Individual Medley Final at 10:50am today:

A stunning 2.29s lead ahead
Afterwhich, Phelps swam in the Men's 100m Butterfly Semifinal 2 merely 40mins later, only to come tops again. You can't help but wonder what he'll do in his best form tomorrow at 10:10am in the final leg of the race. Phelps has hit 6 out of the targeted 8 gold medals, which was 6 out of 14 Gold medals won by USA!

Federer, the former world number 1 in Tennis; one of the most talked about and probably one of THE best tennis players of all time, came to a crashing defeat by James Blake of the USA. After losing his world number 1 title to Rafael Nadal, he was determined to change his fate in the Olympics, but luck wasn't too kind on him. The William sisters also suffered defeats in their singles matches.
What an exciting Olympics 2008.
